Christmas, Drinks

Pomegranate & Ginger Fizz with Martini Rosato

Things are starting to look a little festive around here. I can’t quite believe that December is just around the corner.

This drink is pretty much the only thing my Mum drank last Christmas. While I always insist on snowballs during the festive period (recipe coming soon), I did partake in a couple of these deliciously pink drinks.

I can’t remember exactly where the inspiration came from. I think it may have been Nigella. Either way, it is a lovely way to ease yourself gently into cocktail season.

If you haven’t tried Martini Rosato before, it has a unique taste that comes from aromatic herbs, pomegranate, raspberry, cinnamon and lemon – no wonder it makes a great Christmas drink.

The pomegranate seeds floating on the top are optional. I just couldn’t help myself as I love pomegranates and the challenge they present when trying to remove the seeds. This time I even managed to splatter the inside of my cup of tea with the juice and one of the cats may have been entertained for 5 minutes or so by chasing a stray seed around the kitchen floor . . .

Plus, there is the fact that once you have drunk it you get to eat the marinated seeds at the end.

It would also be better with a few ice cubes swimming around in there, but unfortunately I photographed these on ‘defrost the freezer day’ and the ice cubes were busy melting on the lawn before I realised I needed some. I thought it best to leave them where they were . . .

Also (last thing I promise) you can make this without the Martini Rosato for people who aren’t / don’t drink. The pomegranate juice and ginger ale are a great combo, especially with a twist of lime. And as it will look exactly like ones that do contain the Martini, no-one will know.
