Traditionally all the tasty delights on offer for afternoon tea should be accompanied by a large pot of tea (leaf, not bag), but . . .
Who is to say that the tea has to be a) hot, or b) can’t be turned into a cocktail?
Well, when I say cocktail . . . is a gin & tonic technically a cocktail? I don’t what you would call it. An alcoholic beverage? Sounds a bit plain, and this is anything but plain!
In order to echo the citrus notes in both the gin and the tonic I have used earl grey tea. My preferred brand is teapigs darjeeling earl grey as it is very delicate in flavour and contains little bergamot petals in the bag – so pretty – but you can use whichever one you prefer.
Other than the addition of the tea, the construction of this drink is just like a normal gin & tonic – heaps of ice, lemon and cucumber.
A delightfully cheeky addition to an afternoon tea table.
