Berry Bourbon {with a hint of balsamic}

I do so love a bit of alliteration – berry bourbon balsamic.

There is also beer in here, but it is of the ginger kind so I can’t include it in the title. Because that would ruin it.

You may be thinking that balsamic vinegar in a drink it odd. Me too, but how many times do you see strawberries paired with balsamic? Apparently they are a winning combination (I have tried it and I can’t see what all the fuss is about. It was a strawberry with a bit of vinegar on it. I don’t think it made the strawberry taste any more like a strawberry than it already did. Maybe it works better on the end-of-season / out-of-season strawberries that don’t taste of much. Who knows).

Anyway, after all of that you may be wondering why I bothered to put it in a drink at all.

And it’s not so that I could have a trio of bs in the title.

Well, because I was curious, that’s why!

Turns out, you can’t really taste it. Surprise, surprise! The bourbon is the main flavour, mellowed by all the others (in case the thought of straight bourbon makes you shudder), also if you serve this at a party and someone asks you what is in it and you casually lists all the ingredients, nonchalantly throwing balsamic vinegar in at the end, you can watch their eyebrows shoot up into their hairline and inwardly double up with laughter at their reaction to your ‘secret ingredient’. Or have I just taken things a little too far?

I have to be honest and say that I have never really been a fan of bourbon – which is apparently pronounced ber-bon and not bore-bon (as in the biscuit) which is how I have been saying it and consequently been constantly corrected (more alliteration, yay!) but this drink could convert me, even if drinking something that is loaded with not only ice but also frozen berries when you are living in a fridge only adds to the cold that is seeping into your bones. On the plus side, it does mean you can forget to put the ice cubes away and they don’t melt.
